WA provided Programming, Schematic
Design, Design Development, Construction Documents, Bidding and
Contract Negotiations, and Construction Services to successfully
complete a home for those with Alzheimer's related disorders.
The renovation of an existing 24 bed wing and addition of another 24
bed space combine to provide one of the most comprehensive
Alzheimer's units in New Hampshire. The design links the addition at
two points and encloses a central courtyard space. This provides the
residents with a continuous walking circle on the inside, an outdoor
experience within a confined and safe place. Nursing staff have
maximized views of resident rooms and the landscaped courtyard for
better attention to the resident. Residents now have a greater space
to walk, engage, experience, and become aware of their surroundings,
which reduces the stress in their lives.
In addition to the third floor Alzheimer's unit, SGH also
coordinated the renovation of the sixth floor mechanical penthouse
and the infill of the fourth and fifth floor open space to provide
approximately 1,500 s.f. of dining on each floor. Open public
bidding provided eight bids within 3% of each other.
