The Shaker Road School is an preschool
and Elementary School with an all day, year round Charter. It
services the Concord regional area and has increased it academic
offerings due to the market demand placed on it by parents who want
their children in a caring educational environment that is not
constrained by the public school's hours.
The School has developed as a campus plan with multiple buildings.
So when it needed to plan for the future, SGH created a master plan
for 3 multipurpose pods that can be used for classrooms or special
purpose rooms such as art, science etc. The 4th pod is for a large
meeting place which also has multipurpose capabilities for
athletics, cafeteria or performance needs.
The buildings are wood frame to match the existing vernacular and
they are designed to maximize light, safety and flexibility. Each
classroom can be set up a multiple of different ways to meet
different teaching styles and each pod also has state of the art
computer and audiovisual systems.
The buildings are also built without a sprinkler system as domestic
water is not available in the area, but they do include air
conditioning as they have year round use, and include all other
systems required for a 21st century learning environment.
The cost of the buildings by themselves, is about $75/sq. ft. The
rest of the cost of the 1st Phase is for site work will will serve
the future buildings.
